Not all who wander are lost. - Henry David Thoreau

Have you ever been driving and ended up somewhere completely unexpected? This happens to me a lot (despite all the maps in my Jeep!). These Adventure Rides (a much more fun way to think of being lost) have landed me in some places I never would have found otherwise - places with new perspectives and a sense of freedom that only comes with travel...with wandering.

As a designer, the Creative Process can, for some, be much like a set of directions you might follow on a road trip. It's a great starting point, and will eventually get you to your destination, but it's when you veer off the map (perhaps because of a lacking sense of direction, perhaps on purpose) that you often find yourself in the most inspiring places. Allowing myself to wander through different ideas, concepts, shapes or colors while designing has become part of my Creative Process. I find that it is during these carefree moments when the most intriguing ideas find their way onto my sketch pad and into my websites.

Design Wandering is the Adventure Ride in my Creative Process. I never know where I might end up, but it's usually somewhere awesome.
